What's involved
When something electrical stops working, the cause isn't always where the problem shows. An RCD that keeps tripping might be a faulty appliance, water getting into an outdoor socket, or a damaged cable inside a wall.

My RCD keeps tripping. What should I do?
Unplug everything on the affected circuit and reset it. If it holds, plug things back in one at a time to find the culprit. If it trips with nothing plugged in, or you smell burning, leave it off and call an electrician.
